The Birmingham Public Library has a section on Eastwood Mall in its "Digital Collection" ... full of newspaper articles, photographs and other documents from the archive of Eastwood Mall founder Newman Waters. I highly recommend taking the side trip (But please, come back when you're finished!) The first Eastwood Mall sign from August 1960, just before the mall's grand opening. An identical sign was erected at the rear entrance on Montclair. In the Summer of 1965, this sign along 78 would be replaced by a new and grander marquee - a recent addition, displayed at the top of this page. (Both this, and the '65 picture courtesy of the Dixie Neon Company archive)
Hot Doughnuts Then -- The newly-opened Eastwood Mall Krispy-Kreme, either 1966 or 1967. Version 4.0 (first
version put online November 2003)

It's a historical/tribute document, and nothing more. All photos on this site either were taken by the Webmaster, or are from other collections who are credited. Please do the courtesy of asking permission before using any of these pictures on another website. In most cases I won't mind, so long as they're pictures I took ... but remember, many you see on this site are others'. They deserve consideration, too. Simple good manners, my friend. I trust your mother raised you to know this. |
