TELEVISION COMES TO  BIRMINGHAM ! ! ! 



WSGN-TV, of course, would never materialize.  But in 1965, it sorta did ... WBMG channel 42 signed on, and the station was part-owned by Southern Broadcasting - then parent company of WSGN-AM 610.


 

Mel Allen would go on to do sports for NBC, and also served as a host for their popular weekend radio program Monitor.
