Qwik-Mart

A chain of convenience stores in the Birmingham area during the '60s ... had disappeared by the early '70s.

Thanks to several photos in Mr. Alvin Hudson's immense archive, we have these to share:

Exterior shot ... all these were taken June 22, 1968.
 SOME DETAILS FROM THE PICTURE AT LEFT:

Three cheers for ICEE!  "Exciting frozenated flavors."
========================================

Amusing sign posted by the entrance:  "Warning to minors: We intend to prosecute ANY MINOR attempting to buy alcoholic beverages.  We mean business."

 A nice look inside this Qwik-Mart.
Five-finger discounters, beware!  "Scan Vision" cameras were recording your every move...
They meant business! ;-)

If you're one of those people who want to see closeups of all the merchandise in this picture (people like, ummmm, ME!), your wish is my command.........
SEE THE BIG VERSION (approx. 4 MB)

This is very high resolution, and you can zoom in and see all the BAMA jellies, the FRENCH'S Mashed Potatoes, all the GERBER baby cereal, et al.
