SONGS

Bill Compton -- "Iron Man"
Tim Hollis finally tracked down a copy of this lost classic.

COMMERCIALS & JINGLES

Bargain Town USA jingle
Extra points if you dance the cha-cha while listening.

Jack's Hamburgers - the famous jingle, used 1961-70
(the "adjusted for inflation" version ... I've yet to come across a good, workable copy of one with the original lyrics "for fifteen cents")

Burger In A Hurry jingle - '60s
You'll listen to this one ... we knew you would.

Lumberjack Cold Cuts commercial - 1963
I vaguely remember this name.  I guess they didn't cut the mustard ... or the lunch meat ... or the tree itself ... ahem ...

Downtown Birmingham promo - 1966   (Walt Williams, WSGN)
Downtown is for ACTION people ... for people ON THE MOVE!

"The Kaleidoscope", Bessemer - 1969 (Dan Brennan, WVOK)
That voice.  There was no mistaking it.  Nobody could get you excited about a rock concert like Dan Brennan!

WVOK "Golden Eagle Syrup" commercial - 1969 (Joe Rumore, WVOK)
Featuring music by the John Carroll High School band.

RADIO & TV RECORDINGS

WSGN 'City Song' - a/k/a "Birmingham, That's My Home Town!" - 1961
"Imagineered" by PAMS Productions.  This was a song featured as part of one of their jingle packages.  A station wrote the lyrics to go with the music track.  Many other cities adopted this song, and some even had 45s pressed and gave 'em away.

Incidentally, two other stations in Alabama used this song: WAPX in Montgomery (AM 1600, now WXVI) and WAAY 1550 in Huntsville (M. D. Smith IV, part of the family which for years owned WAAY, has a copy of the Huntsville version on his website)

WVOK "Happy Day" song - 1971
I think this was a PAMS jingle, too.  A companion song was recorded for sister station WBAM in Montgomery.

Image in banner is a fun adaptation of the "Chair Man", a registered trademark of MAXELL, INC.  It's always been one of the Webmaster's favorite logo images, and is used here in loving tribute ... certainly not in a derogatory fashion.  For what it's worth, to the left of the Webmaster's computer desk are two (2) spindles of Maxell CD/Rs.  So there.
